Lots of short trips. A different site every week. A supplier run in the middle of the day. And no time to write any of it down, so by July it's a guess.
The drives between sites are usually the ones you can claim, and the ones that are easiest to forget. See which trips count.
Tell Nomo your work days and hours. Early starts are fine.
Nomo records each drive in the background. Just drive.
Swipe work or personal, then tap Site visit, Pickup or Delivery.
At Bunnings or Total Tools, snap the receipt and Nomo reads the merchant, amount and date.
A vehicle built to carry one tonne or more, or nine or more passengers, isn't a "car" for tax purposes. That means no cents per km and no logbook method. Instead you claim the actual work-related costs, with receipts, and a record of how much you use it for work.
Plenty of dual cab utes sit close to that line, so check your ute's carrying capacity in the manufacturer's specs. The ATO explains it under vehicles that aren't a car.
Nomo works out your ute's work use percentage from the trips you've sorted, and keeps the fuel and servicing receipts alongside it.
If you're on wages, you claim work kilometres. If you're on an ABN, you claim business kilometres in the business section of your return. Either way you need the record, and Nomo keeps it the same way.
Business travel rules are different, especially for travel from home. Check the ATO's guidance for sole traders.
Snap every tool, PPE and consumables receipt at the counter and mark it Work, Mixed or Personal. More on that in the receipt tracker and tools and equipment.
From 2026–27, employees can take a $1,000 standard deduction with no receipts. Tools, protective gear and site to site driving can add up past that, and work car expenses count toward the $1,000. Nomo keeps a running total so you'll know which side of $1,000 you're on.
The full rules, including what you can claim on top: the $1,000 standard deduction, explained.
On an ABN? The standard deduction doesn't cover business income, so every business expense needs a record anyway.
