From the 2026–27 income year, eligible Australian residents with wage income can claim a standard deduction of up to $1,000 for work-related expenses, with no receipts needed.
The catch: the work expenses you claim yourself reduce that standard amount. So claiming your actual expenses only helps if they add up to more than $1,000. And you'll only know that if you've kept track.
Example only. Your numbers depend on your job and your circumstances.
Nomo doesn't decide which one you pick. It gives you the number, so you can decide or hand it to your tax agent. For the detail, including what you can claim on top, read the $1,000 standard deduction, explained, or the ATO's standard deduction guide.
The standard deduction only applies to wage income, not business income. If you're a sole trader, every business expense still needs a record, and that's exactly what Nomo keeps. If you also earn wages, the $1,000 comparison applies to the wage side. See sole trader tax deductions.
A tax deduction tracker keeps a record of the work costs you might claim, as they happen. Trips, receipts, home office hours and expenses all land in one place, so nothing gets forgotten and your records are ready when you need them. Nomo is an Australian tax deduction and mileage/work kilometre tracking app for PAYG employees and sole traders.

Mixed expenses are covered too. Mark a phone bill or a tool you also use at home as Mixed, and record the work share.
The Nomo home screen shows your estimated deductions found so far this financial year, what you added this week and the days left until EOFY. Nudges like "2 trips need a purpose" keep your records tidy as you go.
It's an estimate of what you've tracked, not a refund amount. What you can claim depends on your circumstances.
Export a PDF or CSV report with your trips, work from home hours and receipts by category. Send it to your tax agent, or use it when you do your own return.
Tracking something doesn't make it deductible. The ATO's three golden rules for work-related deductions are:
Nomo helps with the record. You and your tax agent decide what's claimable. See the ATO's claiming deductions guide.
If you spend money to do your job or run your business, Nomo keeps the record.
It depends on whether your eligible work deductions add up to more than $1,000. Nomo shows you a running total so you can compare. For advice on your situation, talk to a registered tax agent.
If you claim your actual work expenses, yes, the ATO's record keeping rules still apply. If you take only the standard deduction, you don't need receipts for the expenses it covers.

Yes. Track business trips, receipts, expenses and hours worked from home, then export a report for your tax agent. The $1,000 standard deduction doesn't apply to business income, so keeping every record matters even more.
