A mileage tracker records the trips you drive: the date, where you started, where you finished and how far you went. That gives you a record of your work kilometres instead of a guess in July.
Most Australians search for "mileage", but the ATO works in kilometres. A tracker built for Australia should log kilometres and apply the current ATO rate for you. Nomo is an Australian tax deduction and mileage/work kilometre tracking app for PAYG employees and sole traders.
Pick your work days and hours, or track around the clock. Nomo only watches for drives when you ask it to.
Nomo records the trip in the background and lets you know when it ends, with the kilometres already counted.
Swipe right for work, left for personal. Then tap a purpose like Site visit or Client meeting.
Every work trip is converted at the current ATO cents per km rate and added to your running total.
Missed one? Add a trip manually. Best done the same day, while you still remember where you went and why.
Driving more than 5,000 work kilometres a year? Nomo keeps an ATO style car logbook too, so bigger car claims are covered.
The Trip Ended ping, right after you park.
Every trip, with the kilometres and your running total.
Check the route, then swipe it to work or personal.
Want to know which trips you can actually claim? Read the work kilometre tracker guide.
Employees and sole traders can both use the cents per km method (91c per km for 2026–27, up to 5,000 km per car) or the logbook method. Employees claim work kilometres as work-related car expenses. Sole traders claim business kilometres in the business section of their return. Either way, you need a record of the trips.
See the ATO's motor vehicle expenses guide for sole traders for the business rules.
From 2026–27, eligible employees can take a $1,000 standard deduction with no receipts. Work car expenses count toward that $1,000, so if your real work deductions come to more, claiming them may get you more back.
Work driving adds up fast. 3,000 work kilometres at 91c is $2,730 on its own. Nomo keeps a running total, so you'll know which side of $1,000 you're on well before tax time.
The full rules, including what you can claim on top: the $1,000 standard deduction, explained.
The standard deduction doesn't cover business income, so every business kilometre needs a record anyway.
